Gxolo
Specialist Dermatologist
Dr Fungiwe Gxolo is a Specialist Dermatologist from the Eastern Cape, practising in East London. She provides medical, surgical and aesthetic dermatology for adults and children, with care for conditions affecting the skin, scalp, hair and nails.
Her clinical interests include skin cancer screening and management, general dermatology, pigmentation concerns, hair loss and aesthetic dermatology.

Born in Mdantsane, Dr Gxolo developed an early interest in medicine through visits to her mother, a physiotherapist, at Cecilia Makiwane Hospital. She completed her MBChB at the University of Cape Town in 2005 and returned to Cecilia Makiwane Hospital for her internship in 2006.
After completing her community service, she worked in accident and emergency at Frere Hospital, where she developed an interest in dermatology.
She began dermatology registrar training at Walter Sisulu University in 2014, including a rotation at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. She qualified with FC Derm (SA) in May 2018 and later completed her Master of Medicine at Walter Sisulu University.
Dr Gxolo worked as a dermatologist at Frere Hospital from 2018 to 2025. In February 2025, she began private practice at Life Beacon Bay Hospital in East London. Her practice is now based in Vincent, East London.
Her interest in dermatological surgery led to further training during her registrar rotation at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. In 2023, she completed an advanced surgical skills course with the South African Society for Dermatologic Surgery (SASDS).
She continues to develop her professional knowledge through dermatology journals, registrar teaching at Walter Sisulu University, congresses, postgraduate workshops and seminars.
